Next day: Day 141, Bundi [Monday 21st April 2008]
We lay in bed all morning feeling quite sick, but finally make it out to the Hawa Mahal (Wind Palace). It's a thick facade fronting a plain building, full of shuttered windows, enabling the women of the palace to observe life in the bazaar while remaining in purdah.
The whole building is currently covered in scaffolding, as the Archeological Survey of India are 'restoring' it. This is evidenced by the dozens of idling workers sitting in shady corners around the palace.
Each level in the stairway has an ashtray/spitoon in the corner, either side of it stained with red ejections of betel juice.
